China Builds ‘Jia Jia’ Surprisingly Human-Like Robot

You might have to look twice to guess that the real looking woman is actually a new interactive robot. Jia Jio has the long flowing locks and rosy red cheeks just like a real woman.

Jia Jia was first trotted last year by engineers at the University of Science and Technology of China. The real looking robot Jia Jia can hold a conversation and can even make facial expressions when asked.The proud creator of Jia Jia, Chen Xiaoping who is the team leader too had showcased his prototype at an economic conference organized by banking giant UBS in Shanghai’s futuristic financial center.

The creator predicted that AI robots like Jia Jia can perform a various task in nearby future. Like performing a range of menial tasks in Chinese restaurants, nursing homes, hospitals, and households.

Chen Xiaoping said that he and his team had made great progress over the past two years in developing her AI. The results were amazing Jia Jia looks strikingly real. Chen Xiaoping said “In 5-10 years there will be a lot of applications for robots in China.”

What’s more awesome is Jia Jia was able to answer a query about the day’s weather, hold the basic conversation and can even recognize the gender of her questioners like she complimented someone “You are a handsome man.” When Jia Jia was asked whether she has a boyfriend, replied: “I prefer to stay single.”

With Jia Jia, the creator sees a bright future for her kind in China. He said, “growing prosperity was causing much young Chinese to eschew jobs like waitressing, while an aging population would require more hands on deck in hospitals and nursing homes — even if they aren’t human hands.”
