How to disable mobile data on your Android phone

The vast majority of mobile phone plans out there these days don’t offer unlimited data. That means most of us have to keep tabs on how much we’re using each month.
Some apps thrive off a constant Internet connection — even when they’re seemingly not in use. Fortunately Android provides a way to prevent any app from sucking data in the background , and there are third-party apps out there that can take things to the next level.

There’s both good and bad points regarding smartphone contracts, especially as they end up costing users far more than what they pay for a SIM-only deal.

Another caveat of a smartphone contract, is that you’re often tied into a small amount of mobile data. This means, when you’re out and about, you’re limited to the amount of music, general internet browsing and other things that you normally do when on a WiFi network. Exceeding your data limit is bad news, and will cost you a lot of money in your end of month bill. Because of this, on occasions it may be right to disable your mobile data, as a safety precaution until your new allowance comes through.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your Android device and select the Data Usage option from near the top of the app.

Step 2: Your phone will now process how much data you’ve been using on your device, along with a bar chart for a visual guide.

Step 3: At the top of this menu, you’ll see a Restrict/Disable Mobile Data toggle. Select it to disable mobile data on your Android phone.

Step 4: The graph will now disappear, and your data icon that’s usually shown at the top of the display will also go.
